Here’s my top 10 best bits from January 2016! It was a busy month for theatre, food and The Boyf’s birthday!
10. A Winter’s Tale
My new year started off pretty brilliantly with my first ever Shakespearian play. Kev had managed to get some front row seats to A Winter’s Tale, directed by and starring Kenneth Branagh. Also joining him on the cast list was Dame Judy Dench! Although Shakespeare is like a foreign language to me, the acting really translated the story and all the emotions. I also took this theatre trip as a chance to show off my new Skinny Dip bag. You can read my full post here!
For 4 nights only, London was hit with an artistic light festival called Lumiere. It featured work from various artists all around London. Charlie & I started at Kings Cross where we caught Circus of Light, Diver, Dresses and a tunnel of colourful water bottles in Litre of Light. We then hopped on the tube towards the centre of the city and took in the Garden of Light in Leicester Square and the piéce de résistance, Luminéoles, beautiful floating fish, soaring high above our heads by Piccadilly. These were truly mesmerising and by far the best piece we’d seen all night!
8. All Star Lanes
The Boyf, The Bro & I had planned to go see The Hateful 8 at the Vue cinema in Westfield Stratford City. I figured we ought to make a night of it and booked us a table for dinner at All Star Lanes. I arrived early so got started on some cocktails. We absolutely stuffed our faces and were even 3 little piggies and ordered dessert, each! I can’t wait to go back for some cheap Monday night bowling.
7. A Night of A Thousand Elvis’s @ Brooklyn Bowl
January 8th would’ve been Elvis’s 81st birthday. We celebrated by watching a variety of performers pay tribute to the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll at Brooklyn Bowl. It was a great night celebrating his music in an array of ways. There were bands, solo singers, even a strip tease from a cowgirl and a magician/clown act who had a very cool trick involving a super quick costume change! The night was led by Daniel Jeanrenaud & The Camden Cats.
6. Musical Bingo
Us Bangarang lot are no strangers to Musical Bingo. We manage to get most of the squad together every 3 or so months. The last one we attended was a Halloween special where we won the trophy for best team effort as the HalloMean Girls! This time round there was no fancy dress, but still the same amount of fun! I highly recommend getting your butts down there.
5. Toy @ Village Underground
For my birthday, James treated me to tickets to see Toy play Village Underground. I love watching Toy live; I just get so lost in their psychedelic music. Village Underground is quickly becoming one of my most visited and favourite venues in London. The band played some of their new songs, so it’s got me super excited for the new album! Before the gig we had a scrumptious dinner at Forge & Co. I’ll have a full post on the restaurant soon, but for now, check out how pretty their sinks are *cue heart eyed emoji!*
4. Sunny Afternoon
One of my Christmas presents from James was tickets to see the West End musical, Sunny Afternoon. I bloody loved every second of this show! I’m a big fan of The Kinks’ music, but didn’t know much about the bands background story. It’s great to see how and when each of the songs were written, and I absolutely loved all the swinging 60’s costumes. This is definitely my favourite era. I decided to dress for the occasion and you can see my full outfit post here!
3. Hump Day High 5!
If you’re a follower of my blog/Twitter/Instagram, you might have noticed I’ve started a new weekly series called Hump Day High 5. This is where I celebrate 5 good things from the past 7 days. I decided to do it every Wednesday as Hump Day can be a bit of a downer, so I wanted to remind myself that there’ll be awesome things to come, every week. You can get involved by using #HumpDayHigh5 to show off your happy moments on Twitter and Instagram. I’ll be keeping an eye on the # and might start sharing your happies too 🙂
2. The Boyf’s Birthday
It was James’s birthday at the end of January, and I had lots of little surprises planned! We started with a jaunt around the V&A, followed by a tasty Indian dinner. To end the evening, I’d managed to get all his friends to surprise him in the Cart & Horses pub in Stratford! The surprises carried on the following day with a double whammy; a trip up to the Sky Garden where I’d planned for his parents and brother to be up there waiting for our arrival at the bar! The weekend was completed with some drinks at Village East and a delicious dinner at The Garrison Public House.
1. Italy Booked!

The big news of January is that Erica & I have booked a mini trip to Italy; 2 nights in Rome and 2 nights in Venice. I am beyond excited!! Venice has been top of my list of places to visit for a good few years now, and we managed to get a pretty sweet deal. My first holiday with a fellow blogger!!
So, that was my January. See how I celebrated my birthday in Paris and everything else in December here! I’d love to hear about what you got up to last month in the comments below.
Thanks for reading 🙂
