Ahoy, and welcome to this week’s Hump Day High 5! This is what I’ve been up to over the past 7 days.
St Patrick’s Punk
My Irish side was very disappointed in me as I spent actual St Paddy’s evening at home with not a single drop of alcohol. I made up for this on Friday night by heading down to the New Cross Inn for some St Patrick’s punk with the likes of Ofelia and Smokey Bastard. There were accordions and mandolins aplenty!
The Egg and Crockery
I finally visited my new local cafe for breakfast, and boy was it good! The Egg and Crockery in Gants Hill is definitely going to be my new regular for weekend breakfast and brunch. The food was delicious and the prices were very affordable! I might just have to treat myself to pancakes and waffles this Easter weekend.
First World Problems
Part 1 of Saturday night was spent in a little basement bar in Soho called St Moritz (sorry for the shoddy picture, I didn’t have my camera with me!). This is a cosy wee place hidden behind a nonchalant door on Wardour Street. We were here to watch a band called First World Problems. I grew an instant girl crush on lead singer Glenda, who is also a work friend of James’s. I really enjoyed them with their catchy lyrics mainly about how much technology sucks (and there’s no app for love).
Games at the garage
Saturday part 2 consisted of gathering everyone round at Jack’s garage to play The Game of Games, a drinking game that I think is mainly based around a similar game played in the show Always Sunny in Philadelphia. We got to make our own Lego character game piece too! In round 1 you’re only allowed to drink wine, round 2 is beer and spirits in round 3. Safe to say I woke up feeling slightly worse for wear, but totally worth it!
Last night I managed to bag myself an invite to join Yelp at an immersive screening of Hairspray put on by Pop Picturehouse at the Hard Rock Cafe. This was a screening with a twist as we were joined by 3 of the characters from the film who danced and mimed along to the movie which was projected onto a big screen. This was great fun and I really hope to get along to their Pulp Fiction screening in April!
