Vatican City – A Photo Album

So a few weeks ago Erica & I went on a mini holiday which consisted of 2 nights in Rome followed by 2 nights in Venice. Whilst in Rome we visited the Vatican and had a wander around the museum whilst trying to find our way to the Sistine Chapel which we were told was somewhere inside! The museum is absolutely massive and we hunted around for a good hour or 2 before we finally found the chapel. Obviously I took far too many photos and I didn’t want to bombard my Rome post with them all, so this is a separate ‘photo album’ post just for ALL the (good) photos (coz I do end up taking some shit!) from inside the Vatican and around the museum. Enjoy!

We were blessed with the most glorious sunshine whilst in the queue waiting to go into The Vatican which is free to enter. It’s a wonderful building with dramatic statues lining the columns around it. Once inside we found ourselves in utter awe of this grand church. Every single part is caked in gold, intricate paintings and pretty tiles; the floor, the walls, the ceiling, the dome! It’s so beautiful, you’re not quite sure what to look at first.

The Vatican Museums & Galleries

The Vatican Museums and Galleries are about a 5-10 minute walk around the corner from the Vatican itself. Inside these galleries is where you’ll (eventually) find the Sistine Chapel. Be warned, it’s literally impossible to just pop into the Sistine Chapel without having to walk through many MANY super, big mahoosive rooms first. As tickets are 16 Euro each, you’ll probably want to make the most of your visit anyway.

We eventually made it down into the depths of the Sistine Chapel only for a voice over the tannoy to tell us to shush and that there were to be ‘no photo’ taken inside, althought Erica did manage to get a sneaky pic! It truly is magnificent in there. If you are going to visit the Sistine Chapel, just be prepared to also have to visit all the hundreds of thousands of museums and galleries that are also inside before you even get close! It took us so long to find it, we even had to make a pit stop in the cafe!

So there you have it, my photos from the Vatican and it’s Museums and Galleries. Make sure you check out what else we got up to in Rome! I’ll have Venice’s write up coming very soon.

  1. Such an incredible building. Looks like you allowed plenty of time to see it. I made the mistake of trying to fit it into a couple of hours! I think you need at least a day to see it properly 🙂
