Another tough week trying to remain strong and keep my spirits up for Amy. I managed to get to 4 gigs over the past 7 days, something Amy & I love to do. Thank you to everyone that has donated, prayed and thought about Amy this week. Please don’t stop now.
Right, here’s what I got up to this week!
A night at Brooklyn Bowl
I’d managed to nab myself some passes through Jukely* to see The View play at Brooklyn Bowl. This was the perfect opportunity for a catch up with my Hobbity friend. We thought it best and convenient to eat in BB’s diner. From our dinner table, we could hear (and see if we stood up) the support act, The Stamp, sound checking in the main music venue in the next room. I had the mac N triple cheese (seriously, cheese heaven!), he had the burger. I even managed to twist Mr Hobbit’s arm into sharing a big slab of brownie. After stuffing our faces we still had some time to kill before the music started so we booked ourselves on to one of the bowling lanes for half an hour. I suck at bowling, like a plunger over a dirty drain. The View boys finally made it on stage for a blinding set which ended in a massive stage invasion from the excitable crowd.

Dead Man’s Whisky
Amy’s cousin’s husband (you got that?) is in a band called Dead Man’s Whiskey and they played their first ever show together in Camden last week. The guys had kindly announced they would be donating all their proceeds from the evening to Amy’s fundraising page, so I thought it was only right I pop along. They were really good! You’d never have known it was their first ever show. It was great to meet Amy’s cousins too and give each other some support.
The Boyf had a spare ticket to see Wilko Johnson play the The Forum in Kentish town and lucky me got to tag along. Wilko was great, but he was slightly overshadowed by support act Joanne Shaw Taylor who was absolutely amazing! She got cheers just as loud as Wilko. I have quite the girl crush on JST and we’re hoping to go see her again at her own headline show.
This was my 3rd weekend in a row visiting Creams Café in Gants Hill, and I’m not even sorry! Each time I’ve ordered something different as I’m trying to eat my way through their extensive dessert menu. This time I was accompanied by the Bro so we each picked something and shared both between us. I picked the cookie dough sundae which didn’t actually have that much cookie dough in it, which was a little disappointing. Joff went for the waffles topped with milk & white chocolate sauces, crushed Oreos and a scoop of Oreo ice cream. This was absolutely delicious. I think we both wished we’d ordered one each!
Last night we went to see Welsh sensation Meilyr Jones play at the Moth Club in Hackney. I’d first seen Meilyr, twice back in July and again in September, but this was his first headline show as part of his own tour. Every time I watch this magnificent man, he keeps better and more confident. He has such a sweet smile after every song when he thanks the crowd. We even managed to talk to the man himself after his set and he kindly signed a t-shirt for Amy, which I will be sending over to her in Australia.
See what I got up to last week. What have been your #HumpDayHigh5 moments from the past 7 days?
