Anxiety had gotten the better of me in August so I thought it best to cancel my Jukely subscription until I was feeling better and more up for going to gigs again, so September and October were a little quiet on the gigging front which is why I’ve put them together into one round-up post. I’ve been feeling much more me recently since starting therapy and my medication, so I’ve already signed back up to Jukely!
Red Roar Festival @ Red Lion, Gravesend
The first of 3 Red Hook gigs in September/October. This set was part of the Red Roar festival at Leo’s Red Lion in Gravesend which ran for 2 weeks in September. There was a whole array of music, from heavy metal, to chilled out acoustic, and even some traditional Irish music! There was a little something for everyone.
Red Hook @ Fiddler’s Elbow
I was covering the late shift on reception at work the night of this gig but just made it in time for Red Hook’s headline slot at Fiddler’s Elbow in Camden. They’ve some more gigs coming up in December so keep an eye on their Facebook page for more info on dates and venues.
Arch 1 Fundraiser @ Cody Dock
Earlier in the year the Red Hook boys played a gig at Arch 1, a cute and comfy venue in West Ham. Unfortunately Arch 1 was hit with a terrible flood during the torrential rains this summer. This has meant it’s been out of business for the last few months, so a special gig was put on at Cody Dock to raise money to help towards getting Arch 1 back up and running. It was a lovely evening filled with hilarious comedians, fresh indie music, finishing with some heavy metal from the Red Hook guys. Here’s hoping Arch 1 will be opening it’s doors soon. You can still donate to help out here.
Hackney Wonderland @ Oval Space
Last year’s Hackney Wonderland was a 1 day festival featuring live music at various venues around the East London borough. This year it was spread over 2 days. I just had a ticket for the Saturday as my favourites, We Are Scientists, were playing a set in the evening. Unfortunately I wasn’t feeling too well but I did manage to make it down to catch the Scientist boys rocking set! I’ve already got tickets to see them again this time at Koko in December!
The Correspondents @ Village Underground *
This was my first Jukely gig in 3 months and what a gig! The Correspondents played an amazing show. They’re the kind of band that are really hard to describe. Kind of a weird fusion of jungle and jazz, though you should probably just go see them to hear for yourself! One thing is for certain, they will make you dance!
Van Morrison @ The O2
I managed to get some super cheap tickets for James & I to see Jeff Beck and Van Morrison play at the O2 as part of Blues Fest. It was fantastic to get the chance to watch 2 music legends, and they both put on amazing sets. I was a little gutted that Van didn’t sing what is probably his biggest hit, ‘Brown Eyed Girl’, but beggars can’t be choosers!
Gigs marked with a * are those which I got passes for through Jukely. You can get £10 off your first month by using my special code: JUKECE1
Did you manage to make it to any of these gigs? Or maybe you saw someone else. I’d love to hear in the comments below!
