February & March were pretty busy months for me what with trips to Luxembourg, Bucharest, Devon and Dublin, so I didn’t quite get to as many gigs as I’d have liked. That’s why I have put February and March’s gig round-up’s in the one post. So, here’s who I did see live!
Joey Landreth @ The Slaughtered Lamb*
The live music venue in the basement of The Slaughtered Lamb is small and cosy, and it was absolutely packed by the time we made it down there just 10 minutes before Joey took to the tiny stage. Not only does Joey have an amazing voice along with his mad guitar skills, but he’s also a genuinely funny and personable guy, interacting with the audience & cracking jokes between songs. He’s definitely one to watch out for!
Wild Nothing @ Moth Club*
It was a Friday night and Nuraan & I fancied some live music, so straight to Jukely I went. We both liked the sound of Wild Nothing so I grabbed us passes. Moth Club is so glam and glittery, you can’t help but dance along to whoever it is you’re seeing. Thankfully Wild Nothing are perfect for bopping along to with a drink in hand.
Sleigh Bells @ Electric Ballroom*
23rd February was a big night for me as I had planned to go to 2 gigs in 1 night! First up was Sleigh Bells. I’ve been a fan for a while now so I was not going to pass up the opportunity to see them live, and they were amazing! I only stayed for a couple of songs as I had to run to gig #2!
Red Hook @ Fiddler’s Elbow
Thankfully, James’ band were playing nearby so I made it just in time to catch their set. Obviously, I’m a little biased, but these guys kick-ass! Hicks, the drummer is currently travelling around America for the next 3 months, so things are looking a little quiet for the Red Hook boys until he returns.
Meilyr Jones @ Islington Assembly Hall
When I really like an artist, I will keep seeing them every time they announce live shows in London. Meilyr is proof of this as this was my 6th time seeing him live. Each time he just gets more mesmerising. It was great to hear new song Watchers live for the 1st time too.
Pop Punk All Dayer @ New Cross Inn
It’s great living in South East London as the New Cross Inn have some fab all dayers/weekenders, full of great bands. This particular Sunday was dedicated to Pop Punk. We managed to catch 3 bands. Charmpit were my favourite. I’ll definitely be seeing these fun-living chicks again!
Gigs marked with a * are those which I got passes for through Jukely. You can get £10 off your first month by using my special code: JUKECE1
Did you manage to make it to any of these gigs? Or maybe you saw someone else. I’d love to hear in the comments below!
