Lockets are a special kind of pendant. They allow you to carry around photos of loved ones, or even small personal items. This one, is extra special.
This heart shaped locket by Martha Jackson features a beautiful cut-out design of intricate swirls. This means if you place just the one photo inside, on the back half, you get a little sneak peek from the front. You can, of course, place 2 photos inside. I found that the best way of cutting the photo to size is to open up the locket and draw around one half of it as much as you can over the part of the photo you want to place inside. Next, cut about 1 millimetre inside the line. Check whether the piece you’ve cut fits into the locket. If not, keep cutting little bits until it does fit in. It’s very easy, and took me less than 2 minutes to do.
Now, the thing that makes Martha Jackson’s lockets extra special is that you can get anything you want engraved on the back for just an extra £5. There are 6 fonts to choose from. I’ve gone for ‘By Hand’, as it was the closest to my tattoo. For those of you who don’t know the story behind my tattoo, last year my best friend Amy was involved in a freak bicycle accident whilst travelling with her boyfriend in Australia, resulting in her falling into a coma for 34 days. A few days before her accident, she had sent me a letter updating me on all the places they’d been to so far. On the back of the envelope she’d written ‘Open with a smile <3’. I received this letter 2 days after her accident, but tried my best to do as she requested. Unfortunately, Amy didn’t survive, but if I had to sum her up with one word, it would definitely be ‘smile’. December last year I took the envelope with me and had that word, plus her signature little heart, tattooed down the side of my wrist. As I knew I would definitely be carrying photos of Amy inside this locket, it was only right to have that same word and symbol engraved on the back.
I love the engraving as it gives it that little personal touch. All engravings are lovingly done onsite by Marco as soon as an order is put through. Each item is then checked before being given an extra polish to produce a mirror like finish. You can also choose to have a longer chain, or how about a small charm? Take your pick of a silver key (£3), a pearl (£2.50), or one of each (£5.50). You could even attach a silver (£10) or gold (£14) letter. I’ve kept mine simple with just the engraving and a standard 40-45cm belcher chain.
I love how tailored most of their lockets can be made. These touches of personalisation make for a great present for a loved one, and hey, Christmas is just around the corner, well less than 8 weeks away!
*I was sent this necklace for free, but rest assured, all words and opinions are my own 🙂
