A few weeks ago I was invited along to the launch of #IbisLates, a month of live music events taking place at Ibis hotels around the UK in partnership with Roundhouse. I was welcomed in by the friendly team and given my room key, as I would also be staying the night at the Shoreditch hotel.
Taking the lift up to the 9th floor, I made it to my room for the night. The rooms here are pretty basic with a double bed and television screen opposite. I was quite impressed with the selection of free hot drinks that were available next to the little kettle. The bathroom is compact with unusual wooden-look flooring. I did like that the shower had Perspex doors and not the usual plastic shower curtain over a bath. Everything was clean and modern. I also love how they advise you to reuse your towels, I mean who washes their own towels at home after every single use? Such a waste of much need energy!
As I was there for a special occasion, I was left a little present which included an Ibis Lates t-shirt (hello new pyjama top!) and a toothbrush and toothpaste, as well as some scrumptious cookies! I relaxed in my room for a little bit, taking in the night time views of Shoreditch outside, before making my way down to the main bar area for some live music.
First up was Jay Johnson. This guy is like a magician with the guitar! The way he was playing it was just mesmerising. Next up was some chilled out funk from Soma. This band are made up of 6 members skilfully playing an array of instruments from bass to saxophone. Finally there was Estee Blu, a soulful female singer with a beautiful voice. Closing the night was a dj set full of 90s classics. Whilst the live music was on we got to enjoy complimentary Kopparberg (the official sponsor of the evening) and little nibbles which were making their way around the bar.
Although the hotel rooms are quite basic at Ibis, the bar and restaurant areas are not! They’re sleek and stylish, and I particularly love the vinyl coasters lining the bar. Hotel bars are becoming more popular with non-hotel guests, so I think it’s a great idea to have some fab entertainment for not only the guests staying in the hotel, but local punters too! The rooms also have cracking views of London!
* I was invited to this event, and given a nights stay at the hotel for free, but rest assured, all words and opinions are my own
