June was a good month for live music with the start of outdoor gigs and festivals. Here’s a round up of who I saw!
Bruce Springsteen @ Wembley Stadium
The day had finally arrived. I was seeing Springsteen play Wembley Stadium. The sun was shining for this first outdoor gig of the year. He put on a fantastic almost 4 hour set, playing the whole of The River, plus some extra hits at the end. At 66 he sure does have a lot of energy!
Adam Ant @ Brixton Academy
This one I’d had to wait a long time for as I’d bought a ticket for my Mum for Christmas. Adam and the boys played the whole of their Kings of the Wild Frontier album, followed by some other hits at the end. This seems to be a trend amongst bands and artists, playing a whole album live. It felt like a bit of a comeback show, with Adam in full Prince Charming ensemble.
Field Day @ Victoria Park – Day 1 *
I managed to grab passes for both days at Field Day Festival from Jukely. We could only stay for half of Saturday but darted between tents and rainstorms and still managed to fit in 5 artists, including Coves, above. The main act we wanted to catch was Meilyr Jones. He’s always so fascinating to watch and I’m sure you’ve seen me mention him quite a lot. Another act we saw was Nimmo, who put on a fun set, which was unfortunately cut a little short due to a technical fault, but they handled it so well.
Field Day @ Victoria Park – Day 2 *
Day 2 of Field Day was a bit of a mud bath, but I came prepared with my new wellies! I managed to catch 11 acts. The Temper Trap were the main one for me. They were so good! Even better than I expected. You could sense that everyone was waiting for something, so when they finally played Sweet Disposition right at the end, the whole tent erupted. It was lovely to also bump into Erica and Claire too!
Glass Animals @ ICA
The first and last time I’d seen Glass Animals was back in 2014, but they’re back with some fresh new tunes. From what I heard at this show, the new album is sounding great. Also, talking of the ICA, I did not know they held gigs here! It’s actually quite nice, the sound was great, but the bar area is a little small so it was very crowded as I think there were some other events going on too.
Testament @ Brooklyn Bowl *
I’m not too big a fan of metal, but James had spotted passes for Testament on Jukely so I thought I’d be the best girlfriend ever and take him to the gig. This was my first live heavy metal experience (apparently James’s band, Red Hook, don’t count!), and you know what? I actually quite enjoyed it! You can see just how passionate about Testament their fans are. Also I was more than happy to be back at Brooklyn Bowl, again.
Gigs marked with a * are those which I got passes for through Jukely. You can get £10 off your first month by using my special code: JUKECE1
Did you manage to make it to any of these gigs? Or maybe you saw someone else. I’d love to hear in the comments below!
