Pop Up Screens Christmas Cinema

We all know I love me a winter themed cinema, so I was very excited to be invited to a screening of Muppets Christmas Carol at Pop Up Screens latest seasonal venture.

You’ll find this pop up cinema in the heart of Hackney, nestled behind a housing estate. It’s pretty hidden, but if you notice a lot of bikes around, then you’re headed in the right direction as it’s next door to a busy bicycle cafe. Once you’ve given your name/tickets to the front desk, turn right and head into the library for a special reading.

Now, I would say I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but it’s not really much of a secret that the entrance to the screen is a big, wooden wardrobe. One of the guys doing the reading will most likely say they’re feeling a little chilly and ask you to grab them a coat from said wardrobe. This is your cue to walk right through the fut coats hanging up and into the winter wonderland beyond the backless wardrobe. It’s just like Narnia, complete with a street lamp, giant tree, and, of course, plenty of snow! Absolutely magical.

Before you get settled in your seats, be sure to make a trip to the bar for boozy hot chocolate (I recommend a shot of rum) and delicious brownies. You’re free to go out to the bar throughout the film as much as you like. Now, inside the screen there is yet MORE SNOW and the screen itself is flanked by majestic trees painted on cotton that almost feel like they’re floating. The room is filled with rows of school looking chairs, and the back row is made up of higher stools, so you’ll always be able to see the screen.

They’ve loads more screenings happening right up until Christmas Eve, so get booking!

* I was given a pair of tickets for free through Love London Pop Ups, but rest assured, all words and opinions are my own 🙂
