If you didn’t already know, I love Bowie, so of course I was not about to turn down an evening celebrating his music!
The Bowie Experience are a touring Bowie tribute show taking you from Major Tom all the way to Earthling. I wasn’t quite sure to begin with as the ‘Bowie’ in the band doesn’t really sound much like the real Bowie, but once you get past that and really appreciate the craftsmanship in the amazing costumes (I need me that striped jumpsuit!) & the live music, it’s a really amazing show!
Most of their shows take place in theatres around the country, from Cornwall to Scotland, but they very much encourage the audience to take photos and get up & dance, so by the end of the 1st half, everyone was up. Loads of people had even ditched their seats altogether to boogie in the side aisles! I’d have liked to have seen some of the more recent of Bowie’s work, but I get that it wouldn’t really fit with the party vibe of the evening.
I’ve seen quite a few Bowie tribute shows now. The others may have the voice nailed, but the Bowie Experience certainly put on a much bigger show with a lot more costume changes with such attention to detail, and a larger band full of some seriously talented musicians who, between the 7 of them, play an array different instruments, including guitar (acoustic & electric), keyboard, saxophone, and even recorder!
If pop divas are more your thing then you’ll be excited to hear these guys have also launched Believe – The Cher Songbook which you can catch touring the country this year!
