Back in February, I decided to give Emerald Street’s 2-4-1 brunch offer a 3rd and final go. My first visit was to The Henry Root which was amazing. My 2nd weekend of discounted brunching was at The Heddon Street Kitchen which was not so fab. This time, after chatting to the Bangarang ladies about their Emerald Street brunch experiences, we chose to book a table at Tom’s Kitchen. I’m a big lover of boats so their St Katherine Docks location was perfect for me. We’d even been given a window seat. Despite the weather, I still gazed dreamingly out onto the docks.
Outside, it was cold, but inside it felt lovely and cosy with the warm wooden tables and chairs. I loved the black and white framed photos across the far wall, showing the history of the docks. The staff are very professional but friendly. It felt comfortably swanky, I didn’t feel under dressed in my jeans and Converse. The tables nearer the windows have more of an upmarket café feel, but further into the establishment there are longer tables and booth type chairs which would be more ideal for a larger gathering of friends/family in the evenings.
We were given a separate menu for Emerald Street readers, but compared to Heddon Street, this one had so much on it I took ages to decide what I wanted! Whilst I argued with myself about whether I wanted the pancakes, or the pâté, or the French toast with cinnamon cream, or the (you get my point!), I ordered a yummy Mango Mojito cocktail and James, a pot of tea. I’ve had my fair share of Mojito’s, but never a mango version. It was fabulously fruity.
For my food order, I finally settled on the Eggs Royale with an extra side of avocado. I know, I know, I always go for eggs and avocado, but when they look as good as that, how could I not?! Everything about this dish was perfect; the seasoning on the avocado, the amount of hollandaise sauce, scrumptious runny yolks, fresh white muffins. So SO good!
James went for the Tom’s Kitchen Burger which was so big and crammed full with smoked Applewood cheddar, bacon, gherkins and onions relish, plus the triple cooked chips, that he struggled to finish his!
I’m already planning on going back so I can try their chocolate cake!
