Today’s post has been written by my brother, Joff. A couple of weeks ago, I sent him along to John Lewis to check out their newest Star Wars toys. Here’s his lowdown on the top gifts for Christmas this year!
With under a month left until the next instalment in the Star Wars Saga finally reaches the silver screen, what better time to look over the latest stocking fillers for the franchise that practically invented the idea of the movie tie-in toy. Recently, John Lewis held an event to celebrate this years ‘Force Friday’, a day where all the toys from the upcoming new Episode of Star Wars are released. In addition to hanging out with Chewbacca and Boba Fett (as well as getting a bit tipsy in the makeshift cantina bar…) I got to see what the latest offerings were. Here are my top 5 picks:
This week saw the release of Star Wars Battlefront II on consoles, but, in case you’re looking for something to occupy you between online matches, why not bring your dog fighting tactics to life with these propel drones. These nifty little gadgets can reach speeds of up to 35 miles an hour and can perform arial stunts.
Arguably the most popular toy to come from the first Force Friday was a remote controlled BB8 that can be controlled by your phone. This time around, BB-8 has a couple of friends in the form of everyone’s favourite droid, R2 D2 and a new dark side version of BB-8, BB-9E
Littlebits Droid Inventor Kit
If owning a mini droid isn’t enough for you though, how about building one yourself? The Littlebits Droid Inventor Kit lets you do just that! Giving you all the tools you need to build your own little R2-D2 which will surely make the bond between you that much stronger.
Star Wars LEGO
Speaking of building things, we cant talk about Star Wars toys without mentioning the main event! LEGO and Star Wars have become pretty much synchronised at this point so there’s plenty of kits to choose from. Whether its the Star Destroyer, Kylo Ren’s TIE fighter or even a LEGO BB-8 (because frankly you can’t have enough BB-8’s) you’ll be sure to find what you want to make your very own star wars set!
Star Wars: Jedi Challenges, Lenovo Mirage AR Headset, Lightsaber Controller and Tracking Beacon
With virtual reality growing more and more popular, this holiday season is making everyone’s Star Wars dreams come true with a VR headset devoted entirely to fighting off Sith Lords! Think Luke Skywalkers training helmet in A New Hope and you’ve got the right idea, except this one comes with visuals.
*We were sent some free Star Wars gifts from John Lewis in exchange for a post, but rest assured, all words and opinions are all Joff’s 🙂
